New picnic shelter reservable

Updated: Mar 11, 2024

The recently built picnic shelter in George Rogers Park (officially known as GRP Picnic Shelter #2) is now reservable. The original structure, built in 1976, was torn down as dry rot set in, among other reasons. The new shelter, covering 780 square feet, features a new pathway connecting the parking lot and a basalt boulder seating area. The accessible path--that wasn't made in 1976--allows for more to use the shelter. It was funded by the 2019 Parks and Recreation bond. Still to be built: two accessible barbeque pits denoted by the white lines in the above picture.

Picnic shelters may be rented for use between April 1 and September 30, 2024. Residents can make reservations at least 7 days in advance but not more than 250 days in advance. The new shelter can be used for events up to 75 people and can be reserved here: https://anc.apm.activecommunities.com/lakeoswegoparks/reservation/search/detail/70?locale=en-US
